10-Year-Old Boy Grows Out Hair for Classmate with Leukemia

When 10-year-old Dakota McNeil learned that his classmate, Kiki Guite, had been diagnosed with leukemia, he decided to do something unconventional to show his support.

Many people shave their heads as a sign of solidarity for their friends and loved ones, but Dakota decided to grow his hair instead. The student at Montreal’s St. Lawrence Academy grew his hair for a year and a half until it was past his shoulders.

When the big moment arrived a crowd gathered in the school’s gym to see him get his long hair chopped off. “I’m excited, and a little bit nervous at the same time, ’cause I want it gone,” Dakota told Global TV News. “It’s annoying.”

He donated his hair to a nonprofit that provides wigs for those who have lost their hair due to medical conditions. This great kid also spent the last 18 months raising money to help pay Kiki family’s medical bills.
