Big-Hearted Pensioner Makes 50 Dinners For The Homeless Every Week And Pays For Food Himself

A retired Dublin man who spends hours every week making over 50 curries to feed the homeless is going viral for his good deeds. Brian Birkett, 65, felt compelled to do something after seeing how many homeless are living in the Irish city.

Brian gets a few donations for his cooking, but more often than not, he generously pays for the ingredients himself. He whips up the tubs of curry at home every Monday night and brings them down to a “soup kitchen” run by A Lending Hand, a volunteer group that helps feed and support the homeless. The group hands out toiletries, clothes, sleeping bags as well as cooked meals every Monday evening outside the Central Bank.

His kind-hearted actions went viral recently, when A Lending Hand posted that Brian needed a lift to transport the meals.

They wrote:

“So this gent who is retired, makes our homeless pals over 50 4-1 chicken curry rice and chips every Monday night,. Tonight he’s stuck for a lift from Ballyfermot to Dame Street and back, would any of you lovely people be able to help him out?”

Please share Brian needs a lift 💚

The photos were widely spread on social media, with people from all over the world praising Brian as an “unsung hero”. (And so everyone knows, he sorted out his transport that night!)

After receiving much praise, Lending Hand wrote, “Brian ya done it again…We are so amazed at all you amazing people for sharing and liking our posts. Thanks so much for highlighting what we do, because the support has been flooding in and for the past few weeks, we have had no kitty or vouchers, so everything has come out of our pockets, so thank u all so much.”
