Young Men Post Funny Craigslist Ad Looking For A ‘BBQ Dad’ And Found More Than One

When it comes to throwing a proper backyard BBQ, everyone needs someone who knows his/her way around a BBQ grill. After all, having a good “pit-master” can make or break a party.

That’s why these young men put out an ad for a BBQ dad. Yes, a group of twenty-something-year-olds posted an ad in Spokane, Washington’s Craigslist asking for a father for their party a day before Father’s Day.

The ad read as follows:

NEEDED: Generic Father for Backyard BBQ

To interested individuals,

We will be throwing a backyard BBQ on June 17th to celebrate beer and each other. We range in age from 21-26, and while most of us know how to operate a grill, none of us are prepared to fill the role of “BBQ Dad” That being said, we are in need of a generic father figure from 4PM to about 8PM (though you may stay the full duration of the party).

Duties include:

– Grilling hamburgers and hotdogs (whilst drinking beer)
– Bringing your own grill (though this is subject to change. We will provide all of the meat)
– Refer to all attendees as “Big Guy’, “Chief”, “Sport”, “Champ” etc. (whilst drinking beer)
– Talk about dad things, like lawnmowers, building your own deck, Jimmy Buffet, etc. Funny anecdotes are highly encouraged. All whilst drinking beer.

Desired experience:

– A minimum of 18 years experience as a father
– A minimum of 10 years grilling experience
– An appreciation of a nice, cold beer on a hot summer day

We can’t pay you in money, BUT we can give you all the food and cold beer your heart desires. Grill for a few hours, then sit back and crack open a few cold ones with the boys.

THIS IS A REAL AD. Do not hesitate to call if you are interested. Preference will be given to applicants named Bill, Randy, or Dave.

So were the guys successful in finding their “BBQ dad”? They were. In fact, they had such an overwhelming response to the ad – with over 100 applicants – that they ended up having several barbecue dads.  Their first pick had a very heartwarming story that made him the perfect pick.

“It didn’t make any sense to invite our own dads originally because it was just among our friends,” said Rybarski. “Most of them are a couple hours away. Now that the story has blown up some of our dads might come, but originally it didn’t make any sense. We needed a dad with no strings attached.”

After their ad went viral, the boys have since re-considered inviting their own dads to the party.

“It didn’t make any sense to invite our own dads originally because it was just among our friends,” said Troy Rybarski, one of the young men organizing the barbecue. “Most of them are a couple hours away. Now that the story has blown up some of our dads might come, but originally it didn’t make any sense. We needed a dad with no strings attached.”

As for why are they were so intent on having a dad on the grill, Troy said, “There’s just something that’s very iconic about having the fatherly figure there and that’s what we were looking for.”

Their ad has garnered so much attention that the boys received free barbecue meats and have been interviewed by national news outlets (one such interview is in the video below).
