How To Bake A Chocolate Cake With A Rice Cooker

I never dreamed a rice cooker could be used to make a cake, but this video shows it can be done! To make a chocolate cake you’ll need a rice cooker and a few basic ingredients: flour, eggs, oil, sugar, whipping cream and chocolate.

The recipe looks pretty simple, and the ingredients and measurements are as follows:

For the dry ingredients:
– 250g Cake Flour
– 250g dark brown sugar
– 120g unsweetened cocoa powder
– 2 teaspoon baking soda
– 2 teaspoon baking powder
– 1 teaspoon salt

For the wet ingredients:
– 200 – 250g unsalted butter (melted and in room temp)
(Extra note: some viewers find adding only 200g butter is not moist enough, I believe the texture may vary from rice cookers, but you may add up to 250g of melted butter & extra 50g of sugar to moist it up more)
– 100g water or earl grey tea or milk
– 3 eggs
– 60g plain yogurt

For the icing:
– 300g dark chocolate chips
– 6 tablespoons syrup

The cook in the video has two important notes:

1. She cooked her cake for 1 hour and 30 minutes, but cooking time can vary depending on your rice cooker.
2. The rice cooker may switch back to “Warm” mode every 10 mins or so. What you should do is to wait a few minutes and switch it back to “Cook” mode until the cooking is done.

I would also add that not all rice cookers may be advanced enough or have the appropriate heat/settings for cooking a cake. So check your manufacturer’s instructions.

The end result looks delicious!
